The motivation challenge
Every Total Battle clan leader meets it sooner or later: members slowly play less, and a strong clan fades. It rarely happens because of one big fight. It happens because effort stops being seen. These five habits fix that.
1. Make contributions visible
The problem: members do not know whether their effort matters, or how they compare. The fix: let everyone see the week.
- Post a weekly snapshot of the top members in clan chat.
- Give members a link where they read their own line any time.
- Highlight who carried each event.
A weekly post that works
Keep it to five lines, posted at the same time every week, right after the weekly reset:
- The clan’s week in one sentence: better, steady or quieter than last week.
- The top three members, by your clan’s own scoring.
- The event hero: who carried the last event.
- The members who beat their own best week.
- Next week’s target and the events coming up.
Leave out who missed the target. That conversation belongs in private messages, never in clan chat.
2. Set clear weekly targets
The problem: “be active” means something different to everyone. The fix: one number, known in advance.
| Target type | Example | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Chest minimum | A set number of chests a week | Clear and easy to check |
| Score minimum | A set number of points a week | Rewards harder content |
| Event participation | Both days of Ragnarök | A clear time window |
- Set it so most active members reach it in a normal week.
- Announce it before the week starts.
- Show where each member stands: exceeded, on track, behind or critical.
- Allow a pause for holidays and real life.
3. Recognise top performers
The problem: your best players feel taken for granted. The fix: thank them, in public, every week.
- A weekly shout-out for the top three.
- An “event hero” after each big event.
- A mention when someone beats their own best week.
It does not need a prize. “Great week, [member]: your Crypt chests carried us” in clan chat does more than most leaders expect.
4. Use fair scoring
The problem: members who run hard content feel worth the same as members farming easy chests. The fix: weigh chests by effort.
| Chest source | Suggested weight |
|---|---|
| Common Crypt | 1× |
| Rare Crypt | 1.5× |
| Epic Crypt | 3× |
| Legendary Crypt | 5× |
| Citadels | 2× to 4×, by level |
| Event chests | 2× to 3× |
Fair scoring keeps your veterans. When they see easy chests earning the same credit as their Legendary Crypts, they stop trying.
5. Create friendly competition
The problem: clan life turns into routine. The fix: small, regular challenges.
- Weekend sprints: who brings the most chests from Friday to Sunday.
- Category weeks: most Citadel chests this week.
- Team battles: split the clan in two for an event.
- Personal bests: beat your own record.
Announce the challenge at the start of the week, post the standings midway and celebrate the winner. Keep prizes modest; the recognition is the prize.
An example challenge
“Ragnarök weekend: the member with the most Fenrir’s Chests and Jörmungandr’s Chests by Sunday 17:00 UTC gets the first slot in our next raid and a shout-out in the weekly post.” It is short, it has a deadline, everyone can check the standings, and the prize costs nothing.
Rotate the category every few weeks, Crypts one week and Citadels the next, so the same members do not win every time. A clan where different people win now and then stays more interested than one with a permanent champion.
Bonus: catch inactivity early
Keeping a member is easier than replacing one. Watch for the signs:
- A member whose chests fall week after week.
- Missed the last two events.
- Silent in chat for two weeks.
- Reach out privately: “Noticed you’ve been quieter. All good?”
- Offer a pause: “Tell us if you need a break.”
- Keep one clear rule, known to all, for long absences.
What strong clans have in common
- Nobody guesses: every member’s week is counted.
- They talk on a rhythm: one update every week.
- They thank effort in public.
- Everyone knows the minimum before the week starts.
- Members can check their own standing without asking an officer.
Questions
How do I keep my Total Battle clan active?
Make every member’s week visible, announce one clear weekly target, score chests fairly, thank the top members in public and add a small challenge now and then.
What should I do about an inactive member?
Ask privately first and offer a pause. Keep one clear rule for long absences, known to everyone in advance.
Do rewards need to be in-game items?
No. Public thanks in clan chat and a mention in the weekly post motivate most members more than items do.
