What it is
Getting more troops involves different actions with different limits. Training adds newly produced units, hiring acquires offered mercenaries, and revival restores the part of a fallen army that remains eligible for recovery.
The official training guide places higher-tier troop access behind the relevant research in Academy. If the troop is locked, spending on a faster completion elsewhere does not remove that prerequisite.
Decide what problem you are solving before spending. A small available training batch, a locked troop tier and an army missing after a battle are different problems, even though each leaves you with fewer troops than you want.
How it works
Unlock and train the units you need
Use the troop's own requirements to find its research prerequisite. For example, Archer I and Archer II are different tier entries, not merely different names for the same training choice.
The game's training text says improving Barracks allows more units to be trained together, and relevant technology also increases that capacity. Capacity is the size of a batch; completing it sooner is a separate timing decision.
The official training article also notes that some troops require Dragon Coins. Inspect the unit's actual cost rather than assuming every recruit uses the same resource mix.
Restore eligible casualties
The official revival rules distinguish losses while attacking from losses while defending. Ordinary recovery is not a promise that every fallen unit returns.
| Situation | Official rule |
|---|---|
| Troops lost while attacking a player or monster | 90% recoverable using Gold |
| Troops lost while defending a location | 75% recoverable using Silver |
| A battle with only this many unit losses | 1; that casualty cannot be revived |
| Troop strength and health penalty when city food reaches nothing | 25% |
| Additional training help from Great Marshal | 5 requests |
Sacred Potion provide an alternative revival currency. Their production and revival cost depend on Temple, according to the same official article.
Special events can change recovery currency, cost or losses. Check the battle's own event conditions before applying the ordinary table to an exceptional encounter.
Keep the army affordable
The official food guide says troops in your city consume Food, except allied reinforcements. If production falls below upkeep, training becomes more expensive; a larger shortage raises that cost further.
When city food reaches nothing, the army also suffers the penalty shown in the table. An army count that rises while its upkeep undermines further training is not sustainable growth.
Step by step
- Choose the troop family and tier that fit your next activity.
- Open its training requirement and complete the relevant research if it is locked.
- Check available batch capacity and the unit's current resource costs.
- Review production of Food and upkeep before placing a large training order.
- Train useful batches and request the assistance your account permits.
- After battles, inspect eligible casualties before deciding how much replacement training is needed.
If you use optional premium benefits, the official premium guide lists extra training help under Great Marshal. That title is an optional premium benefit, not a requirement for following the ordinary research and training route.
Read the current training panel rather than assuming a universal batch size or fixed output from a building level.
The game doesn't publish one capacity table or training-time formula for every account; the figures depend on your building and technology levels. Check them in your own game.
By situation
Preparing for monsters
Grow the units whose bonuses match the target rather than simply the easiest units to produce. The epic troop-selection guide explains why troop roles and the event's commander restriction come before a copied formation.
If a needed tier is locked, make research part of the preparation plan. Training more of an unrelated family may increase the army count while leaving the actual monster-battle problem unsolved.
Rebuilding after player battles
Look at eligible casualties and the battle circumstances first. Defending and attacking use different ordinary recovery rules, and special event rules can change the calculation again.
Compare restoring suitable survivors with training their replacements. Revival restores casualties from that battle; it does not unlock a higher tier or increase your normal training capacity.
Hiring through event offers
The official exchange guide describes a separate acquisition route during Trade Routes. A captain travels to an eligible foreign exchange, the purchase completes on arrival and the captain returns with newly hired mercenaries.
The event guide covers costs, travel limits and return timing. An offer is a specific troop purchase; do not treat it as a permanent increase in the size of every training batch.
Check the calendar before planning an army around a temporary event offer.
Common mistakes
- Trying to solve a research lock with training acceleration.
- Confusing batch capacity with how quickly a batch finishes.
- Ignoring the higher training cost caused by insufficient production of Food.
- Assuming every casualty can be restored under the ordinary rules.
- Hiring units without checking whether their bonuses fit the intended fight.
Quick reference
| Problem | Check first |
|---|---|
| A desired troop is locked | Its research prerequisite |
| The batch is smaller than needed | Building and technology capacity |
| Training costs have risen | Production of Food versus upkeep |
| Units are missing after battle | Eligible revival and event-specific loss rules |
| A temporary mercenary offer looks useful | Exact unit, cost, arrival and return conditions |
| The army grows but performs poorly | Target match and relevant bonuses |
The stacking guide covers organising the army you already have. Increasing army size and arranging its groups are separate tasks.
FAQ
How do I unlock higher troop tiers?
Research the relevant technology in Academy, then follow the troop's own training requirements.
What lets me train a larger batch?
The game text identifies the training building and relevant technologies as capacity upgrade paths. Check the current panel for the exact limit on your account.
Why has training become more expensive?
The official guides say a food-production shortfall increases training cost. Inspect upkeep before assuming the troop's ordinary cost has changed.
Can I recover every unit lost in a battle?
No. Ordinary recovery depends on whether the troops were attacking or defending, with a special exclusion for a lone casualty. Event-specific rules can change the usual conditions.
Is hiring mercenaries the same as increasing training capacity?
No. Hiring acquires the offered units. Training capacity controls the units you can produce together through the normal training process.
